How we make money

This site exists because booking sites earn their commission on the headline number, so the headline number is the one they show you. Any money we make has to survive that sentence. So here is all of it, on one page, with the same standard we apply to the cruise lines.

Commission never moves a number

Rates come off each cruise line's own page and port fees off real booking pages. Nothing we are paid touches a figure, a range, or a total.

We do not rank by commission

The calculator orders lines by what they cost you. A line that pays us nothing appears above one that pays us well whenever it is cheaper, which is most of the time.

Every paid link says so, in place

A commercial link states what we earn next to the link itself, not in small type at the bottom of the page. There is no way to publish one here without it.

Current relationships

None. Open Book Journeys currently has no affiliate relationships, no sponsors and no advertising, and earns nothing from anything on this site. When that changes, each relationship will be listed here with what it pays, on the same deploy that makes the link live.

What we will not do

  • Accept payment to change, soften or omit a figure. The whole site is one long argument that costs should be stated, so this is not a line we can sell.
  • Take a fee to place a cruise line higher than its costs put it.
  • Run advertising that is dressed as editorial, or a paid link that is not marked as one.
  • Sell, rent or share anything about you, which is straightforward given we do not collect anything. See our privacy policy.

If you think something here is wrong, or that a figure has been bent toward whoever is paying, say so and we will publish the correction. Write to hello@openbookjourneys.com.
