Privacy
Using the calculator gives us nothing. It runs in your browser, your figures stay there, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you press a button that says it will be. There is exactly one of those: asking the calculator to email your own working to you, which sends it to us as well and says so before you use it. Beyond that we hold only what you hand over on purpose, by asking for a quote or joining the list. This page says what that is, who else touches it, and what we measure.

What we hold, and only if you offer it
Open Book Journeys is an independent travel agency as well as a set of tools. Booking a trip requires real details, so this is what we ask for and what happens to it.
- If you join the list. Your email address, and nothing else. We use it to write to you about the tools and about travel costs. Every message carries a one-click unsubscribe, and leaving deletes the address.
- If you email yourself an estimate. Your name, your email address, and the working the calculator showed you: the trip you described and the figures it produced. It is stored with the quote requests and used the same way, to answer you. The calculator sends nothing if you do not use it.
- If you ask for a quote. Whatever the trip needs: your name, a contact address, rough dates, who is traveling and what you are after. We use it to price and arrange that trip, and for nothing else.
- If you go on to book. A booking needs what the company you are booking with requires, which usually means full names as they appear on travel documents, dates of birth and payment details. Payment is taken by the supplier or through the host agency's payment system. This site never handles card details, and there is no payment form anywhere on it.
Who else handles it
We would rather name these than imply the data stops with us.
- WorldVia Travel Group, our host agency. Client records, quotes and bookings live in their systems, and email to clients and subscribers is sent through them. Their terms govern that data alongside this policy.
- The companies you book with receive what a booking requires, and only once you have asked us to make one. After that their own privacy terms apply to your reservation.
- Cloudflare serves this site and forwards our mail. Like any host it processes your IP address and request in order to deliver a page.
- Google hosts the mailbox our address forwards into, so anything you write to us rests there too, and runs the booking calendar shown once you have sent the form. That calendar is loaded from Google, and booking a time gives them your name, your email and the slot you picked.
- Sites we link to. Follow a link and you are on their property under their policies. We have no visibility into what happens there.
We do not sell your information, rent it, or hand it to anyone for their own marketing. There is no circumstance in which that changes without this page changing first.
What we measure
Today, nothing. There is no analytics on this site, no advertising or tracking pixels, and no cookies beyond the one below that remembers your color scheme.
That will change. Running a business on a site nobody measures is not a virtue, and we expect to start counting which pages get read and which links get followed. When we do, this section will name the tool, say what it records and say whether it can identify you, and it will say so before it is switched on rather than after. We will not build an advertising profile of you, and we will not hand your behavior to anyone who would.
What is stored on your device
One entry, in your browser's local storage, called obj-theme. It remembers whether you chose light or dark, and it is never transmitted anywhere.
Clearing this site's data removes it, and everything works without it.
How long we keep it
A mailing list address is kept until you unsubscribe. Quote and booking records are kept while we are working on your trip and afterwards for as long as the tax and travel rules require, since a booking is a financial record and not ours alone to delete. Ask and we will tell you exactly what is held for you.
Your rights
Rules such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to see, correct, delete or take a copy of the personal data a business holds about you, and to object to it being sold. We sell nothing, and the rest we will do on request rather than making you find a form. Write to hello@openbookjourneys.com and say what you want.
Money
We are paid commission by the companies you book with, never by you, and it is set out in full on the disclosure page along with the rule that keeps it away from the numbers.
Changes, and how to reach us
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions to hello@openbookjourneys.com.
